I'm So Hot, I Need a Fan.

This usually gets quite a laugh from my students, as fan in Thai means boyfriend. There are several common English words with completely unrelated Thai meanings, and vise versa (this is how my students end up with nicknames like "Porn").

Some examples. English word to Thai meaning:

1. fun - teeth

2. moo - pig 

3. fan - boyfriend

4. phone - rain

I'm sure there are tons more, updates to come as I discover them. Moo is a particularly entertaining one, because of course, the first thing we think of is beef. To say, "Moo, you know, like oink oink" just doesn't quite add up in my mind.
